Porsche is in hot water with German authorities following an accident involving a prototype version of the gasoline-electric hybrid-powered 918 Spyder on a public road last month, according to reports in the German media. The accident, which took place between the towns of Bietigheim-Bissingen and Ludwigsburg (close to Porsche's research-and-development center), saw the 875-hp 918 Spyder spin out of control and collide with a guard rail. Parts of the new $845,000 Porsche flagship are said to have broken loose in the collision before being collected by an oncoming car.

The new BMW 2 Series has been leaking like a sieve for the last week or so, so BMW must be relieved it’s now official and out in the open. Much of the detail we’ve already reported is confirmed with the official reveal, and we already know what the 2 Series looks like thanks to the official photos leaking yesterday, , but now we know which models are going to be rolling in to BMW’s UK showrooms in early 2014. There will be three 2-Series models available at launch – the 220i, 220d and M235i – which will cost £25,040, £25,868 and £34,250 respectively, with a choice of four trim levels - SE, Sport Modern and M Sport.
The new high-tech, low weight Mercedes SL roadster receives its official global unveil next week in Detroit but Car Design News got an early peek of the final production car and had a chat with its designers at Mercedes' US advanced design studio in Carlsbad, California back in November. "We want to get back to clean, long-lasting design," director of Mercedes global advanced design and SL project leader, Steffen Kohl told CDN at the exclusive preview of the sixth-generation model. "So the new SL is long, sleek and still full of tension in the feature lines but less wedgy."
In a short presentation Kohl felt all SLs became successfully iconic in their times because they followed two key rules – ‘sensuality' and ‘cleanness' – but alluded that the first rule may have been lost in more recent eras.
